Matty Healy has offered a feeble apology to Ice Spice after making offensive comments about the rapper on a now-deleted podcast.
The 1975 frontman hit headlines in February after the controversial episode aired, in which he speculated about the artist’s race.
Taking a moment to make a rather half-hearted attempt at an apology during his Auckland show in New Zealand, Matty said: ‘I just feel a bit bad, and I’m kind of a bit sorry if I’ve offended you.
‘Ice Spice, I’m sorry. It’s not because I’m annoyed that me joking got misconstrued. It’s because I don’t want Ice Spice to think I’m a d**k.
‘I love you, Ice Spice. I’m so sorry. I don’t want it to be misconstrued as mean. I don’t mind being a bit of a joker…’

He went on to add: ‘But I am genuinely sorry if I’ve upset her because I f*cking love her.’
Matty’s apology comes after he speculated over Ice Spice’s ethnicity along with Adam Freidland and Nick Mullen during an appearance on The Adam Friedland Show.
Ice Spice – born Isis Naija Gaston – is of African American and Dominican descent and in the episode, the trio joked about her sounding like an ‘Inuit Spice Girl,’ and a ‘chubby Chinese lady’ before they imitated Chinese and Hawaiian accents.

Matty was also asked: ‘So you slide into her DMs and ask “What are you? A f**king Eskimo or something?’’
He replied: ‘Yeah, that’s what I was like.’
Earlier this month, Matty quit his social media after going viral for a whole host of slightly odd and controversial on-stage acts – like sucking fans’ thumbs, giving kisses out to audience members, biting into raw meat, getting a tattoo mid-show.

According to The Sun, Matty told the crowd at his Adelaide gig in Australia: ‘It’s because everything happens in eras. The 1975 is a very eras band. The end of me being a f***ing a**hole is coming to an end,’ he said at the concert.
‘I’ve had enough. I perform all the time and it’s my job. I love doing this but I can’t perform off the stage any more as I just want to be a bloke.’
