Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has told his representatives he wants to complete a ‘dream’ move to Barcelona.

The 22-year-old joined Spanish side Getafe on a season-long loan where he has scored five goals and laid on four assists in 19 appearances.

United were prepared to reintegrate Greenwood into the first-team squad in the summer after charges of attempted rape and assault were dropped earlier in the year but eventually decided his future was best served away from Old Trafford.

Greenwood’s loan will expire at the end of the season with his future a ‘top priority for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.

But his form in Spain has attracted interest from a number of La Liga clubs with defending champions Barcelona among them.

The Sun report the Catalan giants hope to tie up a deal for the striker soon with Greenwood informing his advisors a switch to the Camp Nou would be a ‘dream move’.

A source told the newspaper: ‘Barcelona want to sign Greenwood, and he wants to move there. The next step is for the clubs to come to an agreement.

‘Manchester United want to sell the player and the manager has accepted Greenwood won’t be returning.

‘The view is that it is best for all parties to have a clean break. As talented as Greenwood is, a return to the club when they are at the start of a new chapter, with new owners, is regarded as a backward step.’

Greenwood has adapted well to life in Spain and recently revealed he would be ‘happy’ to stay at Getafe beyond the current season.

‘I adapted pretty quickly. [My] team-mates took me under their wing and I’ve just been happy ever since, coming here and training, playing the games. I’m happy.

‘The fans mean a lot to me. The best feeling so far is when I scored my first goal here at the stadium and it meant a lot to me, I heard the fans quite a lot.

‘We had the training day and a lot of fans came out to watch. We appreciate the fans. They’re like an extra man out there on the pitch when they’re there supporting us.’

The striker is wanted by a host of Spanish clubs.
