Marvel could revive original Avengers in desperate bid to save franchise

It’s no secret Marvel’s latest blockbusters have failed to enrapture fans’ enthusiasm like the original Avengers, leading to bosses debating a resurrection.

With The Marvels set to hit cinemas next month and Loki airing on Disney Plus, fans are wondering what the next phase of the superhero behemoth will look like.

Apparently the studio bosses are also questioning this, with major changes ordered for the Daredevil reboot midway through filming.

Even Deadpool 3 is swimming in rumours of rewrites despite beginning filming – although director Shawn Levy has been teasing some seriously cool cameos.

Superhero fans have been spoilt since Iron Man hit cinemas in 2008 and with an oversaturated genre, newer films are struggling to make the same box office impact.

With the dwindling power of the Marvel Cinematic Universe studio heads have discussed the possibility of reviving fallen Avengers to reignite fan excitement, an insider has claimed.

Next to hit cinemas is The Marvels, with Brie Larson returning as Captain Marvel (Picture: Marvel Entertainment/Youtube)

A lot is riding on the success of villain Kang portrayed by Jonathan Majors (Picture: Disney+)

In a bombshell breakdown of the state of the Marvel, Variety stated that talks had taken place to bring back the original Avengers.

This would reportedly include Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow – both of whom had weighty emotional deaths in Endgame.

Opening up the multiverse allows for endless resurrections and even recasting of beloved characters without an explanation or in-world reason.

Bringing back Scarlett and Robert wouldn’t come at a low cost so if saving money is a goal ‘variants’ of the originals could be the way forward – however this would lose the nostalgic appeal for fans.

This apparently hasn’t been decided upon, with those in charge not closing any doors in a bid to reconnect with their audience.

Rewrites are clearly on the studio’s mind after the writers’ strike and historically Disney has relied on reshoots after screenings to perfect their projects.

A lot is riding on Jonathan Majors’ Kang – who appeared in both Quantumania and Loki – to take over as the next big villain, stepping into Thanos’ shoes.

He has been arrested with allegations of domestic violence, which he denies, causing bosses to reportedly consider ditching Kang and pivoting to a different comic book antagonist like Dr Doom.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is not yet filming despite being announced at Disney’s big expo event earlier this year so this out is plausible if not a bit messy given the build up.

As Marvel assesses the future of its sacred timeline, fans could see branches pruned and a return to origins take over to combat this superhero fatigue.
