Areas in the UK will be enjoying weather warmer than Corfu as the sun finally decides to shine down on US.

A 500 mile-wide ‘high pressure dome’ is bringing is a weeks worth of sunshine and warm weather.

Those living in Southampton and London will enjoy highs of 20C today as weeks of wet weather comes to an end.

Across the South West and the Midlands, Brits will get to bask in 17C heat, while Scotland sees coolers highs of 13C.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: ‘It’s a rare combination for the UK of late – but high pressure and warmth is on the way.’

Another Met Office forecaster added: ‘Some very warm days are possible.

‘There’s a strong signal for high pressure across the UK, bringing a good deal of fine and dry weather for most, continuing through the weekend.’

Later in the week will see even warmer weather, with Londoners set to enjoy highs of 22C on Saturday.

This is on par with the warmest day of 2024 so far, with a peak of 22.1C in Santon Downham in Suffolk on May 1.

Some rainfall is still expected, particularly in the south of the UK, with the driest parts being in northern England and the west coast of Scotland.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway said: ‘While things remain unsettled with further showers or longer spells of rain for some, all areas should see some drier conditions and sunshine at some point and, in that sunshine, it should feel quite warm.

‘It really will depend on where you are geographically as to what weather you might experience. But for the exact details for your area, stay up to date with forecast over the coming days.’

The bank holiday did not live up to everyone’s expectations, with some showers hitting the south but with some ‘decent spells of sunshine in between’.

It comes after a week of thunderstorms and heavy rain which caused damage to buildings and even a landslide.

A yellow weather warning was in place on Thursday, with heavy showers and thunderstorms that continued until today in places.

Lightning strikes damaged the roof of a care home in Elmer, West Sussex, just before 2am on Thursday.

All residents were ‘safely relocated’ and no fire was found.

A university building in Chichester, West Sussex, was also hit by lightning, damaging its roof and electrics.

In Devon, a landslide blocked a railway between Axminster and Honiton.
