Manchester United’s dramatic FA Cup comeback after Fulham’s 5-minutes of madness
Manchester United came from a goal down to beat nine-man Fulham and secure a spot in the FA Cup semi-finals at Old Trafford in a thrilling match last night.
Fulham looked set to make only their second last-four appearance since 1975, but a handball incident 15 minutes from time changed everything.
Jadon Sancho was poised to score the equaliser, but Willian cleared the ball off the line with his hand, leading to a VAR check and subsequent red cards for Fulham manager Marco Silva and Willian.
Aleksandar Mitrovic, who had put Fulham in front, was also sent off after pushing the referee’s arm in protest.
Bruno Fernandes converted the resulting penalty to put United ahead, and Marcel Sabitzer added a second two minutes later.
Fernandes then scored a third in injury time to knock Fulham out of the competition.
Fulham had dominated much of the match before the few minutes of chaos happened, and given that Man United’s performance had been poor up to that point, Fulham was really in the running for the win.
Despite their impressive display for most of the match, Fulham’s 5-minutes of absolute madness changed the course of the game and they only have themselves to blame.
Manchester United will now play Brighton in the semi-finals at Wembley.
