Newcastle United are preparing a fresh approach for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer, according to reports.
The Scotland international was wanted by Newcastle in the January transfer window but United refused to sell as they did not want to strengthen a rival who are challenging for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
However, United’s stance on McTominay’s availability could change at the end of the season if they need to raise funds in order to pave the way for more new signings at Old Trafford.
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle have retained their interest in McTominay ahead of the summer window with Eddie Howe, the club’s director of football Dan Ashworth, and chief scout Steve Nickson all in agreement that the United midfielder would be a positive signing.
The report also claims that McTominay is ‘open to the idea’ of joining Newcastle having seen his amount of playing time reduced following Erik ten Hag’s arrival.

McTominay started 28 games for United in the Premier League last season but under the Dutchman the midfielder has started just seven league matches and made a further 11 appearances off the bench.
It’s understood that McTominay has become ‘worried’ about his lack of playing time during Ten Hag’s reign.
McTominay will have two years remaining on his current deal with United at the end of the season.
