Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Mason Mount in a £60m deal from Chelsea.
Mount is Erik ten Hag’s first signing of the summer as the Dutchman looks to build on a promising first season at Old Trafford.
United recovered from a dismal start to the 2022-23 campaign to finish third in the Premier League and qualify for next season’s Champions League, while they lifted their first trophy since 2017 by winning the EFL Cup.
Mount, who joined Chelsea at the age of six, attracted interest from Arsenal and Liverpool as well as United as his contract at Stamford Bridge ran down.
But Manchester United have won the race to sign the talented England midfielder after agreeing to pay Chelsea £55m plus £5m in add-ons.
Chelsea were reluctant to lose Mount – especially to a direct rival – but decided to sell this summer rather than risk losing the 24-year-old for nothing when his contract was due to expire in 12 months’ time.
Mount made 195 appearances for Chelsea – scoring 33 goals – and helped his boyhood club win the Champions League in 2021.

He has been capped 36 times by England and was part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for last year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Mount was the subject of three unsuccessful bids from Manchester United before Chelsea finally agreed a deal worth £60m.
The former Vitesse and Derby County loanee leaves Stamford Bridge just as Mauricio Pochettino takes over as Chelsea’s sixth permanent manager in five years.
Mount was one of several Chelsea players to struggle last season as the Blues finished just 12th in the Premier League, closer to the relegation zone than the Champions League places.
