Manchester United have announced that Marc Skinner has penned a new contract to remain as head coach until June 2027, with the option of an extra year.

The 42-year-old led United to their first major trophy after winning the FA Cup in 2024. He also achieved a second-placed finish in the 2022-23 Women’s Super League (WSL) season, securing qualification to the Champions League for the first time in their history.

“It has been an absolute privilege to serve as head coach for this fantastic football club for the past four years, and I am delighted to be extending my time in the role for at least a further two years,” Skinner said in a statement.

“We are building a young, hungry team with the aim of challenging consistently for further trophies. There is still more hard work ahead, including this season, but the players and staff have already shown their determination to succeed, and I am looking forward to us taking the next steps in our journey together.”

United are third in the WSL this season, six points behind leaders Chelsea. They boast the best defensive record in the league with the most clean sheets (12) and least goals conceded (9). Skinner’s side are also through to the FA Cup semifinals, where they play local rivals Manchester City.

The English coach joined United in 2021 and across 119 games in charge, he has a win ratio of almost 65%.

United CEO Collette Roche said in a statement: “Building a successful and popular women’s team is an important part of our wider, football first strategy for the club. We appreciate the contribution that Marc has already made towards that goal, and we are delighted that he will continue to play a key role in the drive to put Manchester United at the forefront of growth in the women’s game.”

Skinner signed a one-year contract extension following the FA Cup triumph in 2024, but questions over his future persisted following their disappointing league campaign.

The club came fifth in the WSL — their lowest finish since winning promotion to the WSL in 2019 — and were beaten 6-0 at home by Chelsea on the final day of the season
