A man is accused of shooting his neighbor to death in an argument over dog poop on their shared yard.
Stefen White, 34, allegedly refused to pick up his dog’s excrement and an altercation ensued with his neighbor in Knoxville, Tennessee, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by WATE.
White pulled out a handgun and shot his neighbor in the chest, said the Knoxville Police Department.
Cops responded to a report of a shooting at the home on the 400 block of E Oldham Avenue around 6pm on Saturday and found a man with at least one gunshot wound, police said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.
‘All involved parties are accounted for’, said the police department, and the homicide unit was handling an investigation into the incident.
White was charged with second-degree murder and booked into the Roger D Wilson Detention Facility.
The victim’s identity was not immediately disclosed.
It was not the first time that an argument over a dog has led to a fatal shooting in the US.
On Father’s Day in 2022, the parents of a four-month-old boy were shot dead and a woman in her 20s was wounded after a dispute with a neighbor over a canine in Hartford, Connecticut. Who owned the dog was not clear, but the people involved in the shooting had made complaints about the animal in the past, police said. A person of interest reportedly drove off from the scene. The couple’s young boy was left an orphan.
And in April 2022, an Illinois man walking his dog allegedly shot his neighbor’s German shepherd mix that his own pup was barking at. The German shepherd was being walked by its owners including a 10-year-old girl. The dog shot on his nose and ear was transported to a hospital and survived the ordeal.
