Man jailed for secretly removing condom during sex in rare ‘stealthing’ case | UK News
A man has been sentenced to four years in prison for secretly removing his condom during sex.
Removing the condom without the partner’s consent, also known as ‘stealthing’, is classed as rape in England and Wales but reporting and prosecutions are rare.
Guy Mukendi, 39, was arrested after a young woman reported him for sexual assault in Brixton, south London, in May 2023.
She had consented to sex with him on the condition that a condom was used – but during sex, he removed the condom without the victim’s knowledge.
Police worked with the victim to screenshot messages from Mukendi where he apologised for taking the condom off during sex. He claimed it was because he hadn’t had sex in a long time.
He then deleted those messages, but the screenshots helped to secure his conviction.
Mukendi, of Stockwell Lane in Brixton, denied the charges but was found guilty at Inner London Crown Court in April.
On Thursday (June 13) he was sentenced to four years and three months in prison. His victim was also granted a five-year restraining order.
Detective Constable Jack Earl from the Metropolitan Police said: ‘Throughout this investigation Mukendi denied any wrongdoing – but our officers built a compelling case against him to leave no doubt in the jury’s mind.
‘We were dedicated to securing justice for the victim and will continue to raise awareness that this crime is a form of rape.
‘The victim did the right thing to call the police straight away and her bravery should not be overshadowed.
