A man has been charged after a bomb hoax outside the US Embassy in London.

Police carried out a controlled explosion after a suspicious package was found near the embassy in Nine Elms on Friday morning (November 22).

Daniel Parmenter, aged 43 and of of Kildare Terrace in London, has now been charged with a bomb hoax.

Police arrested him on Sunday after they carried out a warrant to search his home.

He appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court earlier today and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on December 23.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘There are no current links between this investigation and any similar incidents of reported suspicious packages in recent days.’

The embassy was locked down after the suspicious package was found, with some visitors to the building held inside for almost an hour.

Witnesses heard a ‘loud bang’ when the package was detonated.
