A new Gmail function will make it easier to declutter the inbox and avoid being overwhelmed by spam emails.
Google has started to roll out a major change to its email service which will make it easier for users to clear out their inboxes and stop them from getting so many unwanted messages in the first place.
It follows another recent major update, which allows users to select all emails in the window and delete or move them with one tap.
That already makes decluttering easier than it used to be – but with the upcoming change it should be even simpler with the ability to instantly unsubscribe from emails.
It’s easy to accidentally subscribe to all sorts of things nowadays, especially as it’s often necessary to give your email when trying to access a product or service.
Users sometimes need to sign up even if they only want one-time access – and this then leaves them with constant streams of clutter in their inbox.
On top of that, companies can make it quite difficult to unsubscribe and get your name removed from their mailing list.

They might intentionally make it difficult to find the unsubscribe button – for instance, by hiding it at the bottom of an email and making the text so tiny it’s hard to make it out.
But with its new update, Gmail on Android will do all the hard work for you automatically.
A team at Android Police spotted a new unsubscribe button in the Gmail app which does exactly what it says on the tin.
Users just have to open an email message and they will see the option to ‘Unsubscribe’ written clearly at the top of the screen.

Clicking this button then means Gmail will either automatically stop any more messages coming through or it will take users directly to the sender’s webpage where they can inform the sender they do not want any more correspondence from them.
It is thought that Google Pixel phones are seeing the changes first, but that more Android devices will follow.
If as a user you aren’t seeing the new ‘Unsubscribe’ button and believe you should be, it’s worth checking if you have the latest version of the Gmail app and installing the newest version on your phone if you discover you don’t.
This new Gmail function doesn’t appear on iPhones yet.
