Mae Muller announced as UK act for Eurovision 2023
Representing the United Kingdom at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be Mae Muller, who will perform her track “I Wrote A Song” in May.
The 25-year-old is hoping to follow in the footsteps of last year’s successful entry from Sam Ryder. Muller described the opportunity to compete in such a massive music competition as “a dream come true.”
The UK is among the last countries to announce its song for the 2023 contest.
The selection process for this year’s entry followed the same approach as last year, with the BBC collaborating with a management company to choose the act.
Muller, who was born in 1997, the same year the UK last won Eurovision, has previously supported popular acts like Little Mix on tour and worked with artists such as Aitch and Sigala. She expressed admiration for several successful Eurovision artists, including ABBA and Måneskin, and praised Ryder for demonstrating that the UK can excel in the contest.
Tap management, which has previously worked with major artists like Dua Lipa and Ellie Goulding, selected Muller and her song after being impressed by her warm personality and star quality. They were particularly taken with the impactful message of “I Wrote A Song,” which promotes the therapeutic power of music.
After years of disappointing results, the UK is hoping that Muller will help continue the momentum generated by last year’s strong showing.
