Mae Muller has thanked fans for their support after the UK’s disappointing result in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.

The musician took to the stage on Saturday night for the Grand Final of the competition which was held in Liverpool on behalf of last year’s winners Ukraine.

After Sam Ryder’s incredible result in the 2022 competition, Mae’s track I Wrote A Song did not perform as well, with the UK coming second last, while Sweden’s Loreen won for a second time with Tattoo.

Fans have sent major support to the star following the results, and Mae has now spoken out giving love and congratulations to every country who took part in the 2023 contest.

Taking to Twitter, she wrote: ‘I just want to say thank u x.

‘I know i joke a lot but we really put our all into the last few months, not the result we hoped for but so proud of everyone & what we achieved on this journey.

‘Congrats to all the countries, I’ll never forget this journey and I love you all.’

Her gracious response has resonated well with viewers – and other acts, with Ukraine’s TVORCHI sending a love reaction, and Eurovision presenter Rylan Clark writing: ‘We love you so much and couldn’t be prouder of you.’

Hundreds of fans responded in their droves to tell the star how proud they were of her, with one urging her to ‘keep your chin up.’

While the reaction inside the arena was immense, Mae unfortunately didn’t attract the attention of voters or jury, and finished with 24 points, coming just six points before last place Germany.

The competition was won by Sweden who scored an impressive 583 points, with Loreen becoming the first woman, and only the second person, to win twice.

Loreen, 39, who previously triumphed in 2012, narrowly beat Finland’s Kaarija after the public and jury votes were combined.

The Grand Final saw a surprise appearance by Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, a legendary performance by Sam Ryder – which left some fans pretty confused when they thought they misheard him – and Mel Giedroyc absolutely stealing the show.

Loreen will bring Eurovision back to Sweden on the 50th anniversary of Abba’s iconic win, which saw them instantly propelled to international stardom.
