M1 and A14 closures after crash that left lorry hanging off bridge

A lorry driver had a lucky escape after their vehicle crashed into a barrier on the M1 in Leicestershire, leaving it hanging off a bridge. Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway of the motorway at junction 19 Catthorpe Interchange shortly after 04:30 BST. 

Fortunately, the driver was unharmed and able to exit the vehicle safely. The incident resulted in the closure of the southbound carriageway and both sides of the A14 while the lorry was being removed and the area made safe. 

National Highways warned that the affected roads are likely to remain closed for most of the day as repairs are carried out.
