Fans have called out Medhi Edno’s comments over the last few Love Island episodes(Picture: ITV)

Love Island fans were  genuinely confused after Whitney Adebayo apologised to Mehdi Edno for nervously laughing during the latest recoupling.

    Yes really.

In Sunday’s ‘unexpected’ daytime recoupling, Mehdi said what he admired about the 25-year-old entrepreneur which led to an innocent chuckle on her end.

However, the 26-year-old model wasn’t here for the reaction and branded it ‘disrespectful.’

Trying to reassure him, Whitney said: ‘No, it wasn’t that kind of laugh, it was shy. It was a good speech.’

During Monday’s instalment, the pair discussed their frosty exchange and Whitney ended up saying sorry for giggling, and Mehdi gleefully accepted.

Viewers felt that the word sorry shouldn’t have left Whitney’s lips, with one person tweeting: ‘Whitney had nothing to apologise for.. what’s Mehdi’s problem pls??’

‘The fact that Whitney feels the need to apologise to Mehdi over nothing is upsetting. This guy is slowly sucking the personality out of her,’ another added.

‘Whitney apologised to Mehdi for something she didn’t need to apologise for,’ a third person weighed in.

Whitney had nothing to apologise for.. what’s Mehdi’s problem pls?? #LoveIsland

Later in the episode, Mehdi made the bold move and invited her up to the terrace, after fellow islanders questioned their sexual chemistry.

And I’m sure you can guess what happened on the terrace.

Elsewhere in the episode, Jess Harding and Sammy Root attempted to put their spat behind them, however his annoyance intensified after he caught Jess chatting to Mitchel Taylor.

Also the hideaway was open for business and Tyrique Hyde and Ella Thomas were the first couple to enjoy it.

Love Island returns tomorrow at 9pm on ITV.
