London weather: Wimbledon queuers warned of rain in UK forecast | UK News

The weather’s looking pretty patchy in London today, with isolated showers expected not long after Wimbledon kicks off this morning.

The Met Office says parts of Wales, Northern England and Scotland will experience ‘particularly heavy’ rain throughout the early hours.

That wet weather might ease up a bit as it sweeps towards the South of England, but it won’t burn off entirely.

Occasional showers will likely set in around London from about 2pm, though temperatures at least promise to be mild, possibly reaching as high as 22C.

Meteorologist Ellie Glaisyer said: ‘For parts of Northern Ireland and western Scotland, it will be quite a cloudy and damp start to the day.

‘That area of rain continues to push its way eastwards through Monday morning, although the southeast of England still holding on to a bit of sunshine for a time.

‘As that system clears its way towards the east, western parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and South West England seeing a bit of sunshine throughout the afternoon.

Forecasts call for a grey start followed by showers across the capital today.

‘Temperatures are looking similar to what we saw on Sunday, so in the south into the low 20s, but further north generally staying in the mid to high teens.’

Hundreds of tennis fans have set up tents outside the famous grounds in South West London, in eager hopes of securing the best tickets to this year’s tournament at Wimbledon.

It’s expected to be Andy Murray’s last before retiring, with the champion admitting he still can’t ‘move properly’ following an operation for a spinal cyst.

Despite rumours the two-time Wimbledon champion might be bowing out ahead of the contest, he remains slated against world number 38 Tomas Machac in the first round at 11 am on Tuesday.

By then it’s hoped things will have dried out a bit, though the odd shower may persist.

The clouds will then thicken on Wednesday, bringing in blustery winds and heavier rain, with more of the same expected to follow on Thursday.
