Roberto Firmino’s hopes of returning to the Premier League have taken a hit over the Liverpool icon’s astronomical wage demands, according to reports.

Firmino is hoping to make a shock return to the English top-flight just six months after he left Liverpool for the Saudi Pro League.

The Brazil international forward bid an emotional farewell to Anfield last summer, having spent eight years at the club.

He departed on a free to Saudi side Al-Ahli, teaming up with the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Edouard Mendy and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Firmino got off to the perfect start, scoring a hat-trick on his debut and being named club captain.

However, the 32-year-old has failed to find the back of the net since, and this goalless drought has frustrated the club and its fans, while it is said that Firmino himself is unhappy in the Middle East.

It has been reported that Al Ahli are willing to either sell or loan their skipper out for the rest of the season and it is thought that Fulham are one of several Premier League sides who have been offered the chance to sign him in January.

But according to The Sun, there are no English clubs willing to pay the £300,000-a-week wages it would take to get him.

Firmino made a total of 362 appearances for Liverpool between 2015 and 2023, producing 111 goals and 79 assists.

During his spell with the Reds, Liverpool won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Super Cup and Club World Cup.
