Star Sport – Liverpool Carabao Cup winners 2024: VANtasy football
The back page of the Daily Star leads on Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final – it was the first win of the last season of Klopp in charge of the Reds after the German manager announced he would be leaving the Premier League and stepping back from management for a while.
Liverpool’s Carabao Cup celebrations – dancing to Dua Lipa and Klopp sleeping with trophy
Liverpool secured the first trophy of Jurgen Klopp’s farewell tour by lifting the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
The Reds, decimated by injuries, took on Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea in an end-to-end thriller which saw two goals ruled out and an abundance of sitters missed. Eventually, it was Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk who broke the deadlock with two minutes left in extra-time.
His winner sparked wild celebrations at Wembley, beginning with Kostas Tsimikas’ let’s say… bizarre antics. The Reds lifted the League Cup and paraded it around the pitch before heading into the dressing room to party at the expense of Chelsea’s “billion pound bottlejobs”.

Mauricio Pochettino hits back at Gary Neville calling Chelsea ‘billion pound bottlejobs’
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino blasted Gary Neville’s ‘Billion Pound Bottlejobs’ comment about his players.
The Blues were beaten in extra-time of the League Cup Final by a Liverpool side who finished with an eleven mainly made up of inexperienced academy players. Jurgen Klopp was missing the best part of a dozen first-team stars, including world class players such as Alisson Becker and Mohamed Salah, as well as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Dominik Szoboszlai and many more.
After Virgil van Dijk flicked in the winning goal, Neville carved himself into commentary immortality by saying: “It’s Klopp’s kids vs the Blue Billionaire Bottlejobs”. After his brutal description of the Blues, Pochettino came out in defence of his expensively assembled squad.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya ‘training banned XL Bully dog to be security for house’
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has bought an XL Bully dog, despite the fact the breed has been outlawed in the UK.
Raya, 28, bought the pooch, named Goku, in response to a recent string of burglaries at footballers’ homes, The Sun report. XL Bully dogs were banned by the government in December following a series of attacks, many of which were deadly.
However, XL Bully owners are still able to obtain special exemption certificates, and this is how Raya has been able to keep Goku, who has been living with the footballer for nearly a year now. That said, the dogs must be muzzled and kept on a lead at all times when outside the house, and owners are required by law insure and microchip the animal.

Dominik Szoboszlai admits Liverpool disagreement he ‘hated’ after missing Carabao Cup win
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has revealed he was left out of the Carabao Cup final squad due to a decision by the medical team that he “hated”.
The Hungarian player hasn’t played for the Reds since their 4-1 victory over Chelsea at the end of January, due to a muscle injury. He had recovered from a hamstring problem suffered on New Year’s Day against Newcastle United, but then faced another setback.
Szoboszlai was one of several players missing from Jurgen Klopp’s selection options at Wembley due to injuries. Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones and more were also absent from the matchday squad.
