Mirror Sport – Liverpool Carabao Cup winners 2024: Bao WOW
The back page of the Daily Mirror leads on Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final – it was the first win of the last season of Klopp in charge of the Reds after the German manager announced he would be leaving the Premier League and stepping back from management for a while.
Inside Liverpool’s dressing room celebrations as Virgil van Dijk sends cheeky message
Liverpool have kicked off Jurgen Klopp ’s final season at the club in the best possible way by claiming yet another trophy.
The Reds defeated Chelsea in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final at Wembley, with Virgil van Dijk heading home the winning goal in extra-time. The result was significant for the Merseyside club, given their mounting injury problems – and it ensures that Klopp will depart with at least one piece of silverware in hand.
They could add more between now and the end of the season but the celebrations continued both in Liverpool and at Wembley throughout the night. After celebrating on the pitch with supporters following their trophy lift, the squad headed into the dressing room.

Mauricio Pochettino bites back at Gary Neville “billion-pound bottle jobs” jibe
Mauricio Pochettino hit back at Gary Neville’s “unfair” criticism after the TV pundit branded Chelsea “blue billion-pound bottle jobs.”
As the Blues slumped to their sixth Wembley final defeat in a row, Pochettino struggled to contain his disappointment after the Sky Sports analyst put the boot in. Neville said: “I’m really disappointed with Chelsea in that extra time period. You can lose any game of football but you cannot shrink, you cannot go back – particularly when Liverpool have five kids on the pitch. You have to go for their throat.”
In fact, by the end the average age of Liverpool’s XI was 24.1 years, including three teenagers, while Chelsea’s team was 22.6 years. The Chelsea boss, still to land his first trophy in English football, countered: “I didn’t hear what he said, but if you compare the age of the two groups, I think it is similar.

Andy Robertson agrees with Jurgen Klopp as pair slam Chelsea star for “really bad” incident
Andy Robertson has slammed Moises Caicedo ’s “really bad tackle” that has seen Ryan Gravenberch pick up a painful ankle injury.
The Dutch midfielder was taken off on a stretcher during the first half of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final victory after being crunched by Caicedo. The latter did not feel any consequences for the challenge apart from a stern talking-to by referee Chris Kavanagh.
Meanwhile, Gravenberch was spotted with crutches and donned a protective boot during Liverpool ’s celebrations. Robertson has now hit out at Caicedo for the challenge and hopes to have Gravenberch back sooner rather than later.
He said: “Ryan’s [injury] is a really bad tackle. You can’t paint it any other way. It’s a really bad tackle on his ankle and you’ve just got to hope it’s not as bad as the pain he was feeling on the pitch.
