Following a break from social media, Lily Allen has given Twitter – and sped up pop songs – a piece of her mind.
The Smile singer, 37, announced last month she would be stepping back from updating her five million Twitter followers for a bit as she wished to ‘focus’ on work.
But beloved singer Lily is online again, and she isn’t holding back, as she hit out at the violent contents of her Twitter feed, the human species, and sped up pop songs in a recent post.
The Not Fair hitmaker cited sped up pop songs on the radio as symbolic of how ‘insane’ the human species has become.
But on a more serious note, the singer also wondered why her Twitter feed was full of violent videos, and she spotted an interesting theme that she claims runs through them all.
Taking to the platform, which was recently bought for roughly £36billion by Tesla mogul Elon Musk, Lily wrote: ‘I just heard a sped up pop song on hit radio radio, this trend just cements how insane we have become as a species.

‘Also why is my feed full of videos of people being beaten the s*** out of in public places, i do not follow the accounts posting these videos. i hate it here.
‘the violent videos are similar in that, usually the recipient of the beating has stood up to the assailant/s in some way and there is usually a crowd of people just watching this attack take place and doing/saying nothing to stop it.
‘it’s interesting on a metaphorical level, and i wonder who is pushing these videos and to what end.’ [sic]
Some fans jumped to help Lily filter her Twitter recommendations, as they suggested the ‘For you’ feed includes these kinds of videos, while the ‘Following’ feed will generally stick to posts from followers.
One wrote: ‘Make sure your feed is ‘following’ not ‘for you’. Don’t trust twitter to dictate what you see.’
‘Switch your feed from ‘for you’ to ‘following’ – will strip out all of the traumatic & infuriating recommendations’, another recommended.

The Twitter rules surrounding ‘sensitive media’ state: ‘You may not post media that is excessively gory or share violent or adult content within live video or in profile or header images.
‘Media depicting sexual violence and/or assault is also not permitted. Learn more.’
Last month Lily informed her Instagram followers she’d be taking a social media break to focus on some ‘really great things coming up work wise’.
‘I have been finding it harder and harder to focus lately, because phone,’ she began.

‘That means being off of this.’
