‘I’m back,’ Liam Payne captioned the eight-minute update video posted on Saturday, July 8, where he filled fans in on his relationship with son, Bear.
Last week Cheryl gave a little glimpse at Bear, who she shares with Liam, and now the former One Direction singer has opened up about fatherhood.
Bear, six, is co-parented by the two singers, who split in 2018 after a two-year relationship and is kept out of the spotlight.
Liam has been fairly silent on social media since his controversial comments on the Logan Paul podcast, which he also addressed in his video, apologising.
Amid owning up to mistakes made when discussing his former bandmates, the 29-year-old divulged the rare insight into his relationship with his young son.
‘Time with Bear‘s been really, really great, honestly. More than anything I want to say thank you to him and his mum for giving me a little bit of freedom to go and get well in that moment because I had to,’ Liam began.

‘There’s no point trying to be a dad when you’ve got nothing to teach, and I don’t think up until this point I really had much to say to him other than caring for him deeply and loving him very deeply, which obviously are the most important things.’
He explained that he ditched social media to help himself find his roots again through art and music, with his family giving him space to do so.
‘I kind of feel I’ve got more of a grip on life now,’ he continued before launching into compliments about his son.
‘He’s awesome. He’s growing up far too quickly,’ Liam told fans and shared a little anecdote about Bear texting him from his iPad, simply to say hi.
The Strip That Down singer joked he sent ‘ello’ back, only to be corrected on his spelling by Bear.
Liam continued: ‘He’s far more smarter than I think I’ll ever be. Yeah, he’s a wonder, but he’s definitely learning to talk at this moment in time, and it’s a lot of fun to be around to watch him grow.’

Along with a little update on Bear, the singer announced that he was six months sober after spending time in Dubai with a friend who inspired him to put down the drink.
The star disappeared from the public eye back in May after he was criticised by fans for comments he made on the Logan Paul podcast about his former bandmates.
Liam apologised for these and said they came from the ‘wrong place’ before adding: ‘I think in those moments when you make these videos, you don’t realise the impact that your words might have on other people.’
He also announced he would be touring in South America soon, although he is a little nervous as it is the first time he’s toured as the new him.
‘Am I scared? Yes a little bit because it’s kind of the only bit, performing, that I haven’t road tested in this new frame of mind and not having anything to lean on does sound quite daunting. But I’m sure I’ll be fine,’ Liam shared.
