Lewis Hamilton is launching a film and TV production company in order to give better opportunities to ‘diverse voices’.

The Formula One driver, 37, who holds a joint-highest seven champions titles alongside Michael Schumacher, said he wanted to make ‘impactful stories’.

The production company, entitled Dawn Apollo films, was borne out of Hamilton’s love for films and is backing films that have already started production.

A Formula One racing film, which is set to star Brad Pitt and be helmed by Top Gun: Maverick director Joe Kosinski, is set to come to Apple TV+ in the future.

In addition, a documentary feature about Hamilton’s own life and career will also be released on the streaming platform under the Dawn Apollo banner.

Speaking to Deadline, he said: ‘I’ve always been into movies. I watch a lot. I find it a real escape. There are a lot of movies I find inspiring and I’ve always dreamed of one day doing something in this space.’

He continued: ‘I never really had time to dedicate to the craft of acting but a dream of mine has been to story-tell. The goal is to make impactful stories and ultimately to inspire people through movies and storytelling.’

Hamilton explained that while he had been fortunate enough to a Formula One driver, one of his other passions was acting – a full-time career of driving meant that he was unable to scratch that particular itch.

So, he said, he turned to a group of filmmakers and producers in Hollywood for advice and knowledge about how to take the first step into the movie business.

One of those producers, Hamilton says, was Jeffrey Katzenberg, responsible for producing Shrek, The Little Mermaid, How to Train Your Dragon, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

The documentary feature is likely to be released at the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, but Hamilton says the script is yet to be finished and is still being fine-tuned.

Hamilton is currently sixth in the 2022 Formula One World Championship, the season for which draws to a close in Abu Dhabi on November 20.

The championship was won this year by Max Verstappen, whose victory was confirmed at the Japanese Grand Prix earlier this month.
