Lewis Capaldi has admitted the first cut of his upcoming Netflix documentary was so ‘depressing’, he questioned whether he was going to be dead by the end of it.
Earlier this month the Scottish singer announced that he had been followed by a camera crew for the film, which is titled How I’m Feeling Now.
In the all-access documentary, Lewis shares the ups and downs of his career and personal life, ‘returning to his roots after achieving unbelievable global success’ and ‘attempting to reconnect with his old life and the family and friends he left behind’.
But speaking about the documentary, which is released next month, when appearing on This Morning on Friday, Lewis said he struggled to watch it at first.
‘It’s quite a depressing documentary if I’m being honest with you,’ he said.
‘When I watched the first draft I was surprised and wondered if I died at the end of it.
‘I was like “wait”, because it is quite sad, but we did end up filming some extra bits.’

He added: ‘My mental health, I didn’t realise how much my anxiety and other things I struggle with coloured my life, so it was weird to watch it back.
But in his usual manner, Lewis also dropped a few jokes and teased that his Dad was filmed crying for the film, which he said was ‘embarassing’.
‘I think he should be ashamed of that,’ he quipped.
Lewis also spoke about how watching the documentary opened his eyes and forced him to address his mental and physical health, which sparked him to start going to therapy.
‘I saw something and thought it was having an effect on not only me, but the people around me,’ he said.
At the start of the interview, Lewis also spoke about suffering from vertigo, which had come soon after he had been sick with bronchitis.
But he joked all he was doing was just ‘sharing his ailments’ on national television.
‘I’m expecting diarrohea too,’ he added.
But he went on to say he was ‘pleased’ with the final result of his film, which was sweetened by all the money he made for doing it.
While hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary also gave Lewis the chance to plug his upcoming second album Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, he had other ideas.

Staring down the camera to speak to his fans directly, Lewis said it was a ‘blatant and utter joke’ he’d been given the green light to release more music.
‘Don’t bother [buying it],’ he said.
‘Go buy Ed Sheeran’s latest offering.’
While he went on to say he was just doing the job to ‘pay the bills’, Lewis also pondered the idea of another career prospect.
‘I’m not very good at anything else, except love making…,’ he shared.

When announcing his documentary, Lewis decided to opt for a spoof, dressing up as iconic Netflix characters, including ones from Bridgerton, Squid Game, Tiger King, Orange is the New Black, Money Heist and Wednesday Addams.
He later shared it had been a ‘weird two and a half years’ that had all been captured in the film, which was the ‘most emotional film about an overweight guy since The Whale’.
Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now is released on April 5 on Netflix.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
