One of the best new Star Wars designs in years is getting its own Lego set, including minifigures of Bo-Katan, Mando, and Grogu.
The third season of The Mandalorian is currently in full flow and already Lego has a new set based on the Pirate Snub Fighter from the first episode.
But there’s also a new set coming out based on the second episode, The Mines of Mandalore. We won’t get into spoilers on what role the Spider Tank plays in the story but, as you can see, it is indeed a cool robot crab monster.
It has moveable legs, poseable claws, stud shooters on top, and an opening cockpit with space for three Lego minifgures. Three of which come with set: Bo-Katan, Mando (aka Din Djarin), and baby Yoda (aka Grogu).
It all looks very authentic to the show but what will be of special interest to long-time Star Wars fans is that the original tank design was created by the legendary special effects supervisor Phil Tippett.
Tippett was instrumental in creating many of the most iconic sequences in the original Star Wars series, most famously the AT-ATs from The Empire Strikes Back, and other classic 80s sci-fi robots, such as ED-209 from RoboCop.
He was also instrumental in creating the dinosaurs for Jurassic Park and the bugs for Starship Troopers, and you can also see a bit of his new stop motion movie Mad God in the Crab Tank itself.
The minifigures are all great, especially Bo-Katan (pic: Lego)
The Crab Tank is made up of 526 pieces, including the minifigures, and will be released on August 1 – so there’s going to be a bit of a wait for it to come out.
It’ll cost £46.99 when released, as Lego set number 75361, and is meant for anyone aged nine and upwards. Which means it won’t be too hard to assemble if you haven’t made a Lego kit in a while.
It’s not available to pre-order on the Lego website yet but the Pirate Snub Fighter is.
