Arsenal and England skipper Leah Williamson withdraws from England squad with injury
Arsenal defender Leah Williamson has withdrawn from her first England squad since April after suffering a ‘minor hamstring injury.’
Williamson only recently returned to Arsenal and this was set to be her first England camp since her ACL injury, which saw her out of action for nine months.
The 26-year-old, who captained England to the EURO 2022 win, was named in the February camp for fixtures with Austria and Italy to be played in Spain.
She missed out on Arsenal’s win over Man Utd, which saw a record 60,160 attendance – selling out the Emirates.
Millie Turner has been called up to take Williamson’s place in the squad.
The 23-player squad travel to Spain on Monday for a warm weather camp, before facing Austria on 23 February and Italy on 27 February.
Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall described Williamson’s injury as “really minor” boosting hopes she’ll return to Arsenal once the international break is over.
