Lando Norris refuses to worry about Oscar Piastri’s title lead

Norris Focuses on Improvement as Piastri Holds Title Lead

Lando Norris remains unfazed by his Mclaren teammate Oscar Piastri’s lead in the Formula 1 championship race, insisting that he is focused on improving his performance ahead of the Miami Grand Prix this weekend. Piastri has surged ahead with three wins from the last four races, placing him 10 points clear of Norris in the standings.

    Norris Unconcerned by Teammate’s Momentum

In a confident display, Norris stated, “No worry at all. He’s doing a good job and he deserves it. Nothing more than that.” Acknowledging the solid form of Piastri, who is competing for a third consecutive victory after his successes in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Norris emphasised the importance of focusing on his own performance rather than worrying about his teammate’s rise.

Norris acknowledged the need to sharpen his own racing strategy, admitting, “I know I need to get a move on and I need to get into gear a little bit.” The Briton, who took the top step of the podium in Miami last year for his first F1 victory, is determined to replicate that success. “We feel good, we feel confident we’re the best, but the others are certainly not far behind and are constantly putting pressure on us,” he noted.

Reflecting on Past Races and Future Challenges

Despite a strong start to the season, Norris has encountered setbacks, particularly following his victory in Melbourne. He reflected on these missteps, asserting that he is committed to maximising the potential of his car. “This year’s McLaren is different from last year’s,” Norris explained, suggesting that adaptations may have suited Piastri better.

    Looking Ahead to Miami

As the drivers approach the sixth race of the season, Norris remains realistic about the challenges ahead. “It was nice to get away from things and have a bit of a reset,” he said, noting that the recent break has allowed for deeper analysis of past performances. However, he cautioned against expecting immediate changes: “It’s not like things are going to magically work as I would love.”

    Championship Standings After Five Races

    1. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) – 49 points
    2. Lando Norris (McLaren) – 41 points
    3. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) – 31 points
    4. George Russell (Mercedes) – 30 points
    5. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) – 10 points

As the season unfolds, both Norris and Piastri will be looking to establish themselves more firmly in the championship race, making the Miami Grand Prix a crucial venue for their ambitions.
