Women might have been the butt of the joke with ‘girl math’, but it’s men who spend more on group holidays.
Data found from VoucherCodes’ Holiday Report reveals men to be bigger spenders – by as much as £925 more than what women spend on trips abroad.
Women aren’t looking so frivolous now, are they?
Of course, factors such as a gender pay gap are likely to influence this too – a group of men statistically speaking will have greater spending power than a group of women.
On average, lads holidays cost £2,653, which is 35% more than a girls holiday which come in at £1,728.
Alcohol is the biggest dent to the male wallet it seems, as men spend 43% more than woman on booze. Men will spend, according to the data, around £327, while women only spend £139.
Interestingly, men also spend £253 more than women on holiday prep, including fashion and beauty buys – perhaps because they leave it last minute.
Men spend an extra £41 on tanning compared to women, and £19 more on other beauty treatments.
While 30% of women plan and budget for a holiday, men are significantly less likely to – and winging it often means forking out more.
Men are twice as likely as women to ‘never consider the costs on holiday’ and to believe ‘holiday spending isn’t real spending’, research concluded.
Anita Naik, savings expert at VoucherCodes.co.uk, said: ‘We’re all guilty of overspending on holiday from time to time but, as our report findings shows, a bit of forward planning and mindfulness that what we spend on holiday impacts our bank balance when we get home can help keep holiday spending under control.
‘To avoid getting swept away by the excitement of your holiday, set yourself a firm budget before you go.
‘Set out how much you can afford to spend each day and where the money will go, for example if it’s for food, activities, or souvenirs.
‘Whilst you should be strict with yourself, the budget should also be realistic as this will make it much easier to stick to.’
