Kuwait bans Death on the Nile movie for Gal Gadot’s links with the Israeli army. The ban is for Kenneth Branagh’s new film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s whodunnit “Death on the Nile” with Israeli actress Gal Gadot.

According to the statement by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information, spokeswoman Anouar Mourad, the cinemagoers in Kuwait will not be able to watch it in Kuwait.

Kuwait is opposed to the occupation of Palestine and along with 15% of the world, does not recognise Isreal as a state. On the grounds of morality – ‘because Gal Gadot is a former soldier in the Zionist occupying army’.

Kuwaiti ministry has claimed it will continue to censor the movie whilst Israel continues to violate the human rights of Palestinians.

‘Israel banned James Bond – Goldfinger starring Sean Connery‘

The film, directed by Kenneth Branagh, is due for release this month in the United States. The storyline is based on the works of British author Agatha Christie, who is dubbed the “Queen of Crime”.

A host of countries ban movies

The United States has the longest list of movies it has banned, including Brewsters Millions – which was banned in Tennessee because the African slave in the movie, was treated too humanely.

Israel has previously banned several Hollywood movies including James Bonds Goldfinger because of Gert Frobe German past. The country had also banned Shrek 2 for a joke in the movie.

Earlier this week Amnesty International submitted a report which terms the Israeli occupation of Palestine as the “Mechanics of Apartheid”

Social media run ragged by the Israeli press

Twitter exploded with condemnation for the Kuwaiti state, dominated, predominantly by the Israeli press and the Twitter algorithm.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the feed you will also see the comments made by Kuwaiti citizens who want to see the movie banned for the links to Israel, which they consider to be a ‘terrorist state’.

According to Kuwait’s Al-Qabas newspaper, the decision was made following demands on social media for the film to be banned.

Death on the Nile actress Gadot has a history with the IDF

Social media users pointed to Gadot’s controversial praise of Israeli forces during the Gaza war in 2014.

The BDS movement in Kuwait demanded the movie be removed from the screening lists, and questioned the initial approval of it, especially since Gadot’s hit film “Wonder Woman” was banned for the same reason.

A similar campaign has been launched in Lebanon and in Egypt, in which the protestors underline the fact that the plot of the movie takes place in their territory.

Between 8 July and 27 August 2014, more than 2,100 Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip by Israeli bombardment.

Gadot is best known for the lead role in the 2017 Hollywood blockbuster “Wonder Woman”. At the time Israel banned negative critical reviews of Gal Gadot acting and labelled them as being antisemitic.

The film also stars Indian film actor Ali Fazal and Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie alongside Gadot and other lead actors. Agatha Christie is the best-selling novelist of all time. She penned 68 crime novels including the fictional detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.
