The King and Queen are understood to be staying at Birkhall with the monarch being in ‘good spirits’ ahead of his prostate procedure next week, sources have claimed.
King Charles is said to be in “genuinely good spirits” and “good form” ahead of his prostate surgery next week, sources have claimed. The monarch is currently staying at Birkhall, near Balmoral and Queen Camilla is thought to be with him.
Royal watchers were shocked earlier after Buckingham Palace announced the King would be undergoing surgery for an enlarged prostate next week. The King has postponed a number of engagements while he has the procedure, however, the Palace did not clarify whether he will have the operation in London or Scotland.
The announcement read: “In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate. His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure.”
While it is unusual for the Palace to give such detail on a health matter, it is understood Charles wishes to share his diagnosis to encourage other men to get themselves checked. According to GB News’ royal correspondent Cameron Walker, the monarch was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate earlier today after experiencing symptoms and going for a check-up earlier this week.
The news come shortly after Kensington Palace announced Kate, the Princess of Wales underwent abdominal surgery at the London Clinic and will be staying there for up to 14 days.
A spokesperson said the surgery was a success and while it is understood that the planned operation was not related to cancer, the Wales family have asked for their privacy to be respected.
Kensington Palace said: “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery.
“The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter. The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.
“Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share. The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
