Kim Kardashian’s relationship with the Trumps explained after cryptic post about Melania
Fans are wildly speculating about Kim Kardashian’s politics after she posted a picture of Melania Trump to Instagram yesterday following Donald Trump’s inauguration.
The picture, which didn’t include any commentary, showed Melania in her viral wide-brimmed hat that she donned to attend her husband’s official confirmation as President of the United States.
It’s long been known that Kim is friends with the President’s daughter Ivanka Trump, but she has rarely made her political leanings public.
Many assumed that Kim is anti-Trump, given that in 2016, she endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in her race against President Trump, which he ultimately won.
After former President Joe Biden won the election in 2020, she posted three blue hearts alongside a photo of Joe and Kamala, seemingly celebrating their win.
Given this history, many were surprised to see her post a photo of Melania, though it remains unclear if the post was a showing of support for Trump’s politics or merely for Melania’s bold outfit choice.
One user posted; ‘girl…. sold out out for far right maga propaganda.’
Chicago food blogger Teri Turner of @nocrumbsleft fame commented: ‘Well at least we can see exactly who you are.’
X user @RapGirlsRock wrote: ‘Common themes. Those with wealth don’t care about what anyone thinks. Even if it’s hypocritical. They just don’t. Money wins.’
@xoraveen agreed: ‘Kim Kardashian posting Melania Trump confirms my longtime suspicions of her and that family…..’
@dakotapotato789 posted: ‘Bruh maybe she just likes her outfit 😅 plus are we really surprised?’
So what exactly is Kim’s relationship with the Trumps and do we know where she stands politically?
Does Kim Kardashian support President Trump?
It’s long been known that Kim worked with President Trump in 2019 on criminal justice reform intiatives.
She even went to the White House a handful of times to meet with Trump, though this does not necessarily mean she supports his politics.
The reality TV star was asked directly about her political views on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman in 2020.
She lobbied for the release of grandmother Alice Marie Johnson – who was given a life sentence for her first, nonviolent drug offence – and enlisted Trump’s help to accomplish her goal.
Letterman explained that while he admired what Kim has done to support criminal justice reform, it ‘doesn’t make me feel any better about the current administration’.
He went on to grill her about who she would be voting for in the presidential election in 2020, a question she refused to answer.
Of course, its worth noting that her husband at the time, Kanye West, was a very vocal – if erratic – Trump supporter, so its possible she didn’t want to gain more unwanted media attention by disagreeing with him publicly.
She explained to Letterman: ‘Trust me, everyone called me and said, ‘Don’t you dare step foot in that White House or your reputation is done. It’s a life over my reputation.’
Not dropping the subject, David went on to push her about how her work ‘diminishes what I consider to be unacceptable behaviour by the president.’
He added: ‘But do you feel that what is being done on behalf of sentencing reform now via this current administration in any way allows the balance of democracy back in a corridor of viability?’ prompting Kim to admit: ‘I have no idea what you just said’.
In response the TV star stressed that she is ‘extremely focused’ on her work, adding: ‘I’ll give props where props are due’.
Kim also declared: ‘I know who I’m voting for’ but did not elaborate.
Sharing her legal aspirations with Vogue in 2019, Kim said: ‘The White House called me to advise to help change the system of clemency, and I’m sitting in the Roosevelt Room with, like, a judge who had sentenced criminals and a lot of really powerful people and I just sat there, like, Oh, s***. I need to know more.’
She added: ‘I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.’
Did Kim Kardashian vote for Donald Trump?
While its unknown who Kim voted for in 2020 or 2024, according to USA Today, she reached out to Trump after he lost the 2020 election hoping he would endorse another clemency plea, but he reportedly refused because he believed she voted for Joe Biden.
Given that she did publicly endorse Hilary Clinton in 2016, its not impossible she’s continued to lean to the left politically.
However, some fans have taken her friendship with Ivanka Trump as evidence that she’s become more politically conservative.
She previously angered some fans when she posted photos from her 43rd birthday party with Ivanka Trump at Funke restaurant in Beverly Hills, California.
‘So blessed to have hit the jackpot of friends! I couldn’t have ever dreamed I would be so lucky to call these girls my friends ✨ thank you for all the birthday love ❤️’ she captioned the carousel, which featured the Trump heiress alongside Hollywood producer Lydia Kives and Jeff Bezos’ then -fiancé Lauren Sánchez.
Still, there’s no conclusive evidence as to where Kim stands politically, and her work on criminal justice reform is decidedly an initiative more in line with the Democratic party’s platform.
