Kim Cattrall returns as Samantha Jones for a very short scene (Picture: The View)
Samantha Jones is back on And Just Like That, but the reaction to her short scene hasn’t been entirely positive.
The sex-positive PR played by Kim Cattrall, 67, returned for a cameo in the finale of the second season.
Viewers don’t have to wait long to see the fan-favourite as she appeared on screen within 45 seconds of the episode starting.
Sat in the back of a cab, Samantha is dressed in a tight red dress, silver jacket and is holding an oversized clutch bag. The look is accessorised with a very expensive looking diamond ring.
One of the conditions of Kim’s return to the show was that she was styled by Patricia Field, who was the original costume designer, and she certainly brought the glamour.
Rather than the characters being in the same room, Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, is speaking to Samantha on the phone.

When Carrie’s phone starts ringing she breaks out into a big smile before asking: ‘Hello London. What’s shaking lady?’
This begins one minute and 10 seconds of dialogue between the pair.
Samantha informs Carrie that she was planning to surprise her by flying from London to New York for her final dinner party in her apartment.
‘My flight is three hours delayed Carrie, I won’t be able to make it there in time,’ she disappointedly stated.
Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) are not involved in the scenes, but Samantha does mention that they informed her about the dinner party.
When Carrie is shocked to learn she planned to fly in for less than 24 hours, she said: ‘Well it is your apartment and I have to pay my respects so put me on speaker. Go ahead, put me on speaker and hold up that phone.’

‘Thank you for everything you f*****g fabulous flat,’ she proclaimed.
Carrie asked: ‘Erm Samantha, do you have a British accent?’
‘Who’s Samantha, this is Annabelle Bronstein. I’m from Injah. Ta and cheerio. And have a great night.’
Annabelle is an easter egg for avid Sex and the City viewers, as it was the name of the woman Samantha pretended to be in order to use the pool at Soho House.
And just like that… the conversation is over.

Fans have reacted to the cameo on social media, and not everyone is happy about the short scene.
‘Damn the Samantha cameo on #AndJustLikeThat really was disappointing…….. glad to see her on the show tho all this time waiting tho had hoped for much more @KimCattrall @AndJustLikeThat knew she wouldn’t join but was hoping she’d do at least a few cameos in season 3,’ one frustrated view wrote.
Another scathed: ‘The Samantha cameo probably most underdeveloped scene in the history of #AndJustLikeThat and that says a lot’
Other people were just happy to see Samantha back, even if it was brief.
‘It may have been for less than a minute but it felt good to see Samantha back, even if you can tell it was an edit job to make it look like a conversation,’ wrote one pleased viewer.
Another satisfied customer penned: ‘Samantha Jones cameo was perfect and fabulous as Carrie would say’.
In season one of the show, the audience were informed that Carrie and the now London-based Samantha had fallen out, but there was a glimmer of hope when the pair exchanged some texts on the finale.
Kim previously made the decision to turn down returning to Samantha after the second Sex and the City movie due to not wanting to compromise.
‘It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough,’ she told Variety. ‘I also didn’t want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear.’
Episodes of Just Like That are available to watch on NOW and Sky.
