Daily Express – Kemi: My heart breaks when Tories turn to Reform

    July 1, 2024

Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch says her “heart breaks” when Tories tell her they plan to vote for the Reform party, reports the Daily Express.

Back to football, the front page features a picture of some England fans looking tense while watching the match, with the headline: “Relaxing Sunday? Of course not… you’re watching England!”.

Kemi Badenoch’s eight-word warning to converted Reform voters days before election

Kemi Badenoch told how her “heart breaks” when Tories tell her they are voting Reform because their hopes will be dashed. The Business Secretary admitted it has been a difficult election and every seat is being fought like a marginal, even ones like hers that have huge majorities of well over 20,000.

Nigel Farage held a glitzy rally of 5,000 cheering supporters yesterday as he insisted his new political movement is the only story voters are talking about. But the party has been hit by a racism row and claims over its approach to Russia in recent days.

England channel ‘spirit of 1966’ to save Gareth Southgate his job at Euro 2024

Gareth Southgate revealed how England called upon the spirit of ’66 to keep their Euro 2024 dream alive – and save his job. Southgate and his staff showed the squad video footage of England’s only major tournament triumph ahead of their departure for Germany.

And Southgate believes those clips inspired his players to fight until the death – just as they looked to be heading home – to set up a quarter-final clash with Switzerland in Dusseldorf.

Jude Bellingham two-word reaction speaks volumes after goal saves England vs Slovakia

Jude Bellingham was spotted saying “who else?” after saving England from embarrassment with a breathtaking overhead kick at Euro 2024. The Three Lions were on the verge of exiting the tournament in the round of 16 at the hands of Slovakia. With the score 1-0 to Slovakia in the 95th minute, Bellingham acrobatically met a headed Marc Guehi flick-on inside the box with a brilliant finish to make it 1-1.

The day after turning 21, Bellingham marked his birthday weekend in some style and his equaliser sparked wild scenes inside the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

Extra Time as Bellingham comes to the rescue

    Editorial 01 July 2024.

Monday’s front pages are dominated by two stories: the French elections and England’s National Football team.

The French headed to the polls on Sunday and as opinion polls predicted, the far-right National Rally (RN) party swept the first round of voting. The snap French elections have caused chaos in France – with many papers noting that Macron’s decision to call the election, appears to have backfired.

England’s last-16 match also features – with images of Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane on most front pages. England put in another poor performance, losing 1-0 to Slovakia before Jude Bellingham scored a stunning overhead kick to equalise – in the 95th minute. Captain Harry Kane gave England the lead just one minute into extra time.

Elsewhere, the papers also leave room for the upcoming UK general election – to be held on Thursday. There’s no surprise in how the papers cover the UK elections with the right-leaning papers warning Labour can’t be trusted on issues like defence, immigration and the economy and the left-leaning papers reporting on the 14 years of hell under the Tories and Labour’s promises of a brighter future.
