Kai Havertz’s move from Arsenal to Chelsea is set to be confirmed imminently, but the Germany international has already chosen his new squad number.
The The Gunners have agreed a fee of £65 million plus add-ons for the 24-year-old who undertook his medical in Spain last weekend.
An official announcement is imminent, but in a video leaked online, Havertz has explained why he has chosen a somewhat unorthodox shirt number.
‘So I have it now for many years,’ said Havertz who also wore No.29 during his time at Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen.
‘I chose it when I became a professional in Germany and since then it’s always given me luck. You know when I became a professional I took it because it has some history with my brother.

‘We used to take it always when we played video games together.
‘For me it’s a perfect number and I cannot wait to wear it playing in red again.’
Once Havertz’s signing is confirmed, Arsenal will look to continue their ambitious summer recruitment drive by adding West Ham’s Declan Rice and Ajax’s Jurrien Timber to their squad.

A third bid worth a massive £105m for Rice was submitted last night and Arsenal are hopeful it will be enough to finally convince the Hammers to sell them their prize asset.
Timber, meanwhile, has agreed personal terms with the Gunners having dismissed a counter offer from Bayern Munich and his move is expected to be rubber-stamped in the next few days.
