Julia Fox didn’t mince her words when speaking about Anna Wintour’s Met Gala this week.
The biggest night in fashion went down in New York on May 1 and saw some of the most famous faces on the planet descend on the Metropolitan Museum of Art while dressed to the nines.
The gala has been going since 1948, when it was devised to raise cash for the museum’s Costume Institute and since 1995 Vogue editor Anna has presided over the exclusive event.
In a new interview, 33-year-old Julia made it pretty clear she has no intention of ever going to the event, even if she was invited, saying it’s all about ‘politics, privilege and who your parents are’.
The Uncut Gems star also called on Anna, 73, to step aside and make way for ‘fresh, new energy’ and lambasted this year’s theme – Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty – while she was at it.
Mum-of-one and stone-cold fashion icon Julia told MailOnline: ‘To be honest with you, the Met Gala has never spoken to me – I mean look at who is running it.’

She went on: ‘If it was about fashion I’d be there but it’s not. It’s about politics, privilege, who your parents are and how much money you make.’
As for Anna, Julia said: ‘She just won’t quit – how long is she going to keep going? There is a disconnect. American Vogue is not my favourite: it needs to be more fun and fresh and new energy.’

The actress also questioned the very public celebration of Karl, who helmed Chanel and died in 2019, saying he ‘upheld supremacy and imperialism ideals’.
The late designer has been known to release unfiltered thoughts throughout his lifetime that many felt were controversial.
Julia certainly isn’t the only celebrity to have taken issue with Karl being at the centre of this year’s Met theme, with Jameela Jamil also sharing her strong feelings about the decision.
Under his headshot, Jameela penned on social media: ‘This man … was indeed, supremely talented, but used his platform in such a distinctly hateful way, mostly towards women, so repeatedly — and up until the last years of his life — showing no remorse, offering no atonement, no apology, no help to groups he attacked.
‘Those groups were women who were sexually assaulted, the entire #MeToo movement, gay couples who wanted to adopt, all fat people, specifically fat women, and some of his greatest harm was against Muslim refugees, and the disgusting way he spoke about people fleeing their homes for fear of their lives [sic].’

Karl has also been accused of being ‘fatphobic’ in the past when he made comments on French television about curvy models – following which a complaint was brought against him in 2013.
