Jon Snow has said he has no concern about being a father again in later life, after welcoming a son with wife Precious Lunga.

The Channel 4 newsreader was 73 when he expanded his family in 2021, with his bundle of joy Tafara being born via surrogacy after Precious, 48, suffered miscarriages.

The broadcaster, now 75, is also dad to two daughters, whom he shares with his ex-partner of 35 years, human rights lawyer Madeleine Colvin, and grandfather to two grandsons, aged one and three.

But the prospect of raising a third child in his 70s hasn’t daunted Jon, who insisted that he ‘hasn’t found age relevant to his relationships with his son or grandchildren.’

He explained: ‘I’m completely at ease with late fatherhood. I don’t feel I’ll drop him; I don’t feel exhausted.’

The journalist also opened up further about having Tafara and the decision to have a child with Precious.

He told Saga Exceptional: ‘Having him was not easy but we persisted because, at 48, my wife is a good deal younger than me and she very much wanted and deserved a baby. When he was born, life felt complete.’

Jon married for the first time at 62 years old, tying the knot with academic Precious, who is 27 years his junior, in the Caribbean.

Known for being notoriously private when it comes to his personal life, Jon didn’t share details of their big day at the time.

He later confirmed ‘some time’ after their wedding: ‘Yes I have got married, but I have absolutely no interest in discussing my private life.’

In 2021, Jon stepped back from Channel 4 News after 32 years helming the programme, making him the longest-serving presenter in the show’s history.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who joined the It’s A Sin broadcaster’s flagship evening bulletin in 1998, was later confirmed as Jon’s replacement.
