Johnny Depp v Amber Heard: Johnny Depp expected to return to stand on Monday as witness for Amber Heard
Actor Johnny Depp is expected to take the stand again on Monday as his defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard continues.
Depp, 57, and Heard are locked in a legal battle over an op-ed Heard wrote in the Washington Post in 2018 in which she detailed her experience of alleged domestic abuse.
Depp is suing Heard, 36, for $50 million for defamation, whilst Heard is countersuing for $100m. Depp’s lawyers argue the op-ed suggested Depp was abusive to Heard despite him not being named in the article.

Heard is counter-suing Depp for libel after he labelled her a liar.
Depp was on the stand 2 weeks ago and is set to return to the hot seat today – this time as a witness for Heard’s case.
A source reportedly told Deadline that Depp is set to be called as a witness for the defence on Monday, May 23.
Depp will be the third person to take the stand, after an anatomy expert and an Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) expert.
The trial so far has been explosive – will claims of physical and sexual abuse. The case kicked off in Virginia on April 11 and is entering its final week, with judge Penny Azcarte saying she wants closing arguments on May 27.
In her testimony, Amber Heard has alleged she was beaten and threatened by Johnny Depp and accused him of abusing drugs and alcohol during their volatile and short marriage.
Johnny Depp has denied the allegations of abuse and points toward a smear campaign orchestrated by Heard to further her public profile.
Asked what he has lost following the publication of Heard’s essay, he said: ‘No matter the outcome of this trial, the second the allegations were made against me, the accusations, the second that more and more metastasised and turned into fodder for the media, once that happened, I lost then.’
The trial has split opinions – the media is seeming ‘team Heard’ but online, Johnny Depp is widely being believed.
The public trial is being live-streamed across the world and Depp fans often wait outside to give the actor gifts. The public is overwhelmingly in support of Johnny Depp – as well as a lot of celebrities.
