It was the end of the road for Joe Swash as he became the latest celebrity eliminated from I’m A Celebrity South Africa.

During Tuesday’s instalment, the campmates were instructed to pick coloured rocks from a bag to see who might face a survival challenge, each celeb then picked someone to save from the grim task.

Cricketer Phil Tufnell and the former EastEnders actor were the final two not to be picked which meant they had to face Temple of Doom.

The duo raced for survival attempting to unlock four locks, seeking codes from the holes in the lid of the tomb. In a race against the clock, Joe and Phil battled it out to escape first and save their place in camp, however, Joe struggled in the final few moments, and ultimately lost his place in the competition.

Speaking to hosts Ant and Dec about tackling the jungle for the second time, he simply said he was ‘too old for this game’ and ‘over it’ compared to his first stint on the show, which saw him win back in 2008.

This comes after the former Dancing on Ice winner broke down in tears during Monday night’s show and had to be comforted by fellow campmates Myleene Klass and Jordan Banjo.

Joe, 41, confided in them about how much he missed his children and his wife, Stacey Solomon, with both fellow parents totally able to relate to how he was feeling.

The TV personality – who first won I’m A Celeb in 2008 – has 15-year-old son Harry from a previous relationship, and shares Rex, three, Rose, one, and newborn Belle with Stacey.

Following his exit, Joe said: ‘I think I found it tougher ultimately because of being away from the kids for so long. I missed my family so much. We had our phones taken away and I’ve never not had communication with them before. My kids are young and I knew they wouldn’t really understand where I was and would be upset.

‘It really played on me. And being in the camp, it always brings up memories for me of Stacey. If it wasn’t for the show, I would never have my family. My family were always in the front of my mind. I found that really difficult. A lot harder than I thought I would. But again I was really lucky as the people in camp kept my spirits high.’

Yesterday’s episode saw Georgia Toffolo and Andy Whyment heading home, and two celebrities will follow suit in tomorrow’s instalment.

I’m A Celebrity…South Africa returns tomorrow at 9pm on ITV.
