JK Rowling appeared to admit she would face time behind bars to stand by her comments and views about the transgender community.

The 58-year-old Harry Potter author has been known to share strong opinions about gender identity in the past and recently made her feelings on the subject clear via X – formerly known as Twitter.

Seeming to respond to reports by the Mail On Sunday that suggested a Labour government could make gender identity attacks a criminal offence in Britain, the writer was forceful in her stance.

According to the publication, a Conservative source claimed: ‘We’ve seen people arrested for misgendering but this isn’t enough for Labour – they want them locked up for two years.’

Following this, JK penned on the social media app: ‘I’ll happily do two years if the alternative is compelled speech and forced denial of the reality and importance of sex.

‘Bring on the court case, I say. It’ll be more fun than I’ve ever had on a red carpet.’

Her words came after a user on the network tweeted her in response to a picture she shared of a projector spelling out the words, ‘Repeat after us: trans women are women’, with a caption that said, ‘No’.

The online account informed JK: ‘Vote Labour, get a two year stretch!’, which prompted her reaction.

Continuing her threat of tweets, the famous author went on to say: ‘Hoping for the library, obviously, but I think I could do ok in the kitchens.

‘Laundry might be a problem. I have a tendency to shrink stuff/turn it pink accidentally. Guessing that won’t be a major issue if it’s mostly scrubs and sheets, though.

‘I’m ok at ironing. It’s the not checking there’s a random red sock in amongst the sheets that’s the issue.’

In recent years, the creator of the globally successful wizard book series has been slammed by LGBTQ+ people and organisations for remarks that have been deemed transphobic.

Following her words about trans rights, JK denied being unaccepting of transgender people.

The backlash first began in 2020 after the writer penned a statement on her website that read: ‘When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he’s a woman… you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside’.

She explained that she was partly motivated to speak out because of her experience of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

Since then, stars of the Harry Potter franchise – Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint – have spoken out publicly in opposition to her views on gender.

JK has previously tweeted she has received ‘so many death threats I could paper the house with them’.

In 2021 her address was posted online by campaigners who posed outside her home with ‘Trans liberation now’ signs.

Metro.co.uk contacted JK’s reps who declined to comment.
