Jimmy Floryd Hasselbaink praised Cole Palmer for showing ‘arrogance’ and taking the responsibility of taking the penalty which opened the scoring in Saturday’s derby against Arsenal.
The summer signing from Manchester City has been an instant hit at Stamford Bridge and continued his fine form with an impressive display against the Gunners.
Stationed in an unfamiliar false nine role, Palmer caused Arsenal’s centre backs William Saliba and Gabriel real problems with his intelligent movement.
The England Under-21 international opened his goalscoring account for his new club earlier this month from the penalty spot at Burnley and took on the responsibility from 12 yards again when Chelsea were awarded a spot kick in the 15th minute.
Saliba was penaalised for a handball offence after he blocked Mykhailo Mudryk’s header with an outstretched arm and Palmer calmly rolled home the spot kick, sending David Raya the wrong way.

Despite his successful conversion at Turf Moor, Palmer had to argue his right to take the penalty and was seen arguing with Raheem Sterling.
Hasselbaink was pleased to see the youngster have the confidence to step up and praised his technique.

‘Penalty taking is not easy when the referee blows his whistle he waits he calms everyone down and he breaks the momentum of the goalkeeper and then he takes it.
‘For me that is confidence, that for me is having something having some arrogance but that’s allowed.’
