Jessica Chastain has been praised by viewers for choosing to wear a face mask while attending the Oscars on Sunday.
The American actress, 45, was seen wearing the mask, which were previously mandatory during the Covid-19 pandemic, as she attended the 95th Academy Awards to present the prizes for best actor and best actress to Brendan Fraser and Michelle Yeoh respectively.
Yeoh’s film, Everything Everywhere All at Once, swept up in several other categories, including best original screenplay and best picture.
Meanwhile, Fraser, 54, took home the award for best actor – his first ever solo Academy Award – beating competition from Paul Mescal and Austin Butler.
At the ceremony, Chastain wore a mask during her arrival as well as later on while sitting in the star-studded audience, and it’s a move that went down well.
‘Jessica Chastain, one of the most intelligent celebrities at the Oscars tonight. Thank you for wearing a mask,’ one fan commented on social media.

Another viewer said: ‘Give Jessica Chastain an award for wearing a mask at all these award shows.’
When asked why she was wearing a mask on the red carpet, she explained that she’s keeping herself as healthy as possible while performing in a play.
‘I’m doing a play right now in New York. I’m a little nervous about getting sick but I’ve got my mask,’ she said.
‘You have to be so careful.’

At another point in the night, video footage showed Chastain trying to find her mask after momentarily misplacing it, asking others if they’d seen it.
Soon after, it was revealed to have been placed into her clutch, which she handed to an assistant and presumably forgot about amidst the red carpet chaos.
Later on, while seated in the theatre, she could also be seen wearing her mask, only removing it to talk to the night’s host, Jimmy Kimmel.

Viewers at home noticed: ‘First shout out goes to Jessica Chastain for wearing a mask, seemingly the only A-lister I’ve seen wearing one.’
It appeared that Chastain had fully recovered from stumbling at the Sag Awards last month, after which Paul Mescal helped her up the stairs.
