Jesse Lingard speaks out after police probe in South Korea

Jesse Lingard says he didn’t know the rules in his new home of South Korea, after a police investigation into him riding an e-scooter without a license.

Lingard posted a video on social of himself riding an electric scooter, which has since been deleted.

Earlier this year it was ruled that riding an e-scooter without a license would bring about a fine of 100,000 won (£56.85) and riding without a helmet would be a fine of 20,000 won (£11.47).

The Korea Times report that a preliminary probe was launched by Seoul police after the clip was posted.

The England international has since posted a video on Instagram explaining how he wasn’t aware of the new rules and warning others not to do the same as he did.

‘Obviously I was on an e-scooter yesterday, driving around for a couple of minutes on the e-scooter,’ Lingard said. ‘I didn’t know the rules of wearing a helmet or having a license as well.

‘In England, and probably in Europe as well, you can just pick up an e-bike or e-scooter off the street and just start riding it. To anyone visiting South Korea, obviously, you’ve got to check the rules. It can be dangerous. Safety first for everyone. Helmets on and obviously, I won’t do that again.’

He added in a post: ‘Sorry guys in my previous video I meant countries outside the UK have different rules for riding an e-scooter. Regardless, stay safe and know the rules.’

The 31-year-old has had an injury-hit time since move to K League 1, scoring four goals in his 18 appearances for FC Seoul so far.

Lingard scored on his last outing on Saturday in a 3-2 home defeat to Daejeon Hana Citizen which left Seoul fifth in the top flight and eight points off the top of the table.

After the defeat, the former Manchester United man posted: ‘We take the positives , we still in a good position but we have to start the game with more focus.

‘So now full attention on the next game. Thank you to our fans for your support.’
