Jerry Springer revealed what his closing argument to God would be in his last ever interview.

The presenter, who helmed the Jerry Springer Show, died on April 27 at the age of 79, with a family spokesperson confirming the news.

Speaking about their loss, close friend Jean Galvin told NBC News that he died of pancreatic cancer – with his reps confirming the news to Metro.co.uk.

‘Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,’ Galvin said.

Back in February, the host appeared on Australia’s The Morning Show and reflected on his 32 years in showbusiness.

When asked about his retirement plans, he added: ‘I think God may [have plans for when I retire], and so I hope he’s okay with me.

‘I figured when my judgment day comes, my closing argument [to God] when he’s ready to decide where to send me [is]… “Oh, remember my final thought? I hope that my final thought is the one that can speak to [my] character.”‘

Springer shot to worldwide fame when the Jerry Springer Show premiered in September, 1991.

Although it drew millions of viewers throughout the 27 seasons, before it went off air in 2018, Springer described the series as ‘stupid’ in a candid interview, admitting that he ‘ruined the culture’.

He said: ‘The personality of the guests. No one’s watching because of me, they’re watching because the stories are crazy and the people are outrageous.’

‘When it started, we were a serious show. But then all of a sudden, it started going crazy. And when Universal bought us, they said, “From now on, only crazy.”’

Before the program hit the airwaves, the late star enjoyed a career in politics, and ran for Congress in 1970.

He was elected to the Cincinnati City Council the following year and served for three years, before he was asked to take on the role of mayor of Cincinnati in 1997.
