Japan Airlines suffers hacker attack, according to reports it suffered a cyber attack from unknown hackers and that its flights are experiencing delays as a result. The company also decided to suspend ticket sales for the entire day.

“We can confirm that we have been subjected to a cyber attack and we are addressing the situation,” a Japan Airlines spokeswoman said, without adding details about the perpetrator of the attack.
Japan Airlines is frantically trying deploy its business continuity plans to avoid further delays between Boxing day and New Years.
“At the moment – reports Japan Airlines when it is mid-morning in Tokyo – about ten domestic flights and some international ones will be delayed”.
A history of cyber attacks in Japan
This is not the first cyber attack against Japanese companies and agencies. There is a history of cyber attacks in Japan. At the end of 2023, the Japanese space agency (Jaxa) announced that it had likely been the victim of a cyber attack.
In July of the same year, the port of Nagoya, the most important in the archipelago in terms of traffic, was paralyzed by a ransomware attack attributed to the Russian-speaking hacker group LockBit.
According to media reports, the Japanese Cyber Security Agency (NISC) itself also suffered hacker infiltration for about nine months.
In February 2022, the world’s largest automaker Toyota was forced to suspend all production in the country for a day due to a cyber attack that hit one of its suppliers.
Last June, also in Japan the very popular video sharing site Nonico had to temporarily suspend services due to a large-scale cyber attack.
