Jamie Oliver managed to get on the wrong side of some of his fans in his new festive show after he suggested an… unusual combination for inside his ultimate Christmas sandwich.
In the second episode of Jamie’s Christmas Shortcuts – titled Betwixmas – the popular TV chef, 48, was suggesting new recipes to help with leftovers on Boxing Day onwards.
Naturally, this involved a giant Christmas sandwich (or muffuletta, to be exact) filled with turkey, ham and cheese, served on focaccia with a special blended gravy mayonnaise within as well.
However, it appears this mixing of two popular sauces did not go down well at all with some viewers – and Jamie knew it would take a little bit of selling on his part.
Introducing his stomach-turning combination, Naked Chef star Jamie acknowledged it was controversial as he explained: ‘Often you’d see different kind of mayonnaises or aioli as a layer on a muffuletta, and I’m going to make some leftover gravy mayonnaise.’
He added: ‘I can only promise you this is a thing of beauty, gravy mayonnaise. It’s so right but wrong… it’s so good!’

‘I’ve defended Jamie Oliver for 25 years. I can’t defend gravy mayonnaise. Sorry,’ tweeted @NiallcNPC31 on social media platform X.
‘FFS #JamieOliver Gravy mayonnaise?!?!’ asked outraged user @WombledonDog.
‘@jamieoliver I try most things, but no f***ing way am I trying gravy mixed with mayonnaise,’ added Del Mitri, alongside three green nauseous face emoji.
Anne-Marie M was even more direct in her judgement on the sauce, revealing that the gravy mayo was ‘making me want to vomit’.
‘What in the fresh hell is this? No… noooo … surely not,’ questioned Rebecca Drees, before admitting: ‘Now cannot just leave the gravy and will be left intrigued and mixing it with mayo after Christmas. What have you done!!!!’

Others were awful suspicious but ultimately trusting of the chef.
‘Gravy and mayonnaise @jamieoliver are you sure? Did I hear that right?,’ wondered Karen Woodland.
‘I’ll give it a go,’ she then added.

Jamie recently had fans cracking up online when he delivered a brutal putdown of presenter Jake Humphrey, who manged to question him live on air in a bid to get the celebrity chef on his High Performance podcast.
Jake revealed he had desperately been trying to get in touch with Jamie and must have reached out to him ‘about 50 times’.
However, when his request was played back to Jamie by colleague Chris Moyles on his XFM radio show, it didn’t exactly go Jake’s way – but hey, if you don’t ask you don’t get.
Jamie’s Christmas Shortcuts is available to watch via catch-up on Channel 4.
