‘It’s been toxic at times!’ Scott McTominay makes admission over Manchester United dressing room

Scott McTominay insists Erik ten Hag retains the full backing of his Manchester United’s players despite another looming crisis.

The Red Devils appeared to have turned a corner last week when they delivered their most accomplished performance of the season, beating Chelsea 2-1 as Ten Hag celebrated his Manager of the Month award in style.

Any optimism generated from that result quickly disipated, however, over the weekend following a calamitous 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth, who had never previously record a win at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag is understood to be fighting for his job once again amid speculation that a number of high-profile players are unhappy with his tactics and unrelenting training methods.

McTominay, however, is adamant that could not be further from the truth and maintains the dressing room atmosphere is far removed from the dark days of Jose Mourinho and Ralf Rangnick’s tenures.

‘It’s the players responsiblity first and foremost players know that as well,’ said the Scotland international ahead of tomorrow night’s must-win game against Bayern Munich.

‘We’ve had many amazing players over the time and I feel we’re at a stage now where we’ve got big characters in the dressing room where it’s not just a case of like under some of the other managers where it’s been a little bit toxic at times.

‘The boys are firmly behind the manager and that’s the be all and end all. I’ve said that in many other interviews and that’s the way it will remain.

‘We’ve got an amazing coaching staff as well. It can get lost in translation and get carried away with what players think and say behind closed doors.

‘We just want to do well for the football club and it’s as simple as that.’
