Israeli strikes in Gaza kill 12 aid truck guards
Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have killed at least 35 Palestinians, including 12 individuals guarding aid trucks, according to medics and Gaza’s Hamas-run Civil Defence authority. The guards were reportedly protecting lorries carrying flour to UN warehouses in southern Gaza, which have been targeted by violent theft amid severe food shortages.
Seven guards died in Rafah, and another five were killed in Khan Younis during separate strikes, local officials said. Israeli military sources stated the strikes targeted “armed Hamas terrorists” allegedly planning to hijack the aid shipments.
“The occupation once again targeted those securing the aid trucks,”
Civil Defence spokesman Mahmoud Basal told the AFP news agency.
Strike on Nuseirat refugee camp kills 15
A separate airstrike near Nuseirat refugee camp killed 15 more individuals, and over 30 people, including many children, were injured in the attacks, according to the Civil Defence.
Recently – amid severe food shortages – UN workers say violent armed thefts have been the main obstacle to getting aid into the southern part of Gaza. Civilians, as well as remnants of Hamas police, have mobilised to try to counter the gangs.
