Israeli army carries out clean sweep at the border with Lebanon
The Israeli army carried out a large-scale security search operation at the border fence with Lebanon on Sunday night after it said two people attempted to illegally cross into Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces said troops along the frontier “spotted the tracks of two people near the security fence on the Lebanon border,” the Times of Israel newspaper reported Monday.
According to the Israeli Defence Force (IDF), the “border breach did not appear to be terror-related.” But the army has used heavy-handed attacks in the operation called ‘clean sweep’.
The report said flares were fired into the air and large numbers of troops were dispatched to the scene, along with helicopters, citing military and residents of the area. “The incident will be investigated,” the IDF said.
