Israel to close embassy in Ireland over alleged ‘anti-Israel policies’
Israel announced plans to shut its Dublin embassy, accusing Ireland’s government of “extreme anti-Israel policies.” Foreign Minister Gideon Saar criticised Ireland for supporting South Africa’s legal action at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which accuses Israel of “genocide.”
Saar also cited Ireland’s earlier recognition of a Palestinian state and alleged “anti-Semitic rhetoric” as factors behind the decision, accusing Ireland of using double standards to delegitimise Israel.
In response, Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris called the move “deeply regrettable” and defended Ireland as being “pro-peace,” rejecting claims of anti-Israel sentiment.
Israel says it will now focus diplomatic efforts on nations with favourable relations.
