Cliff Notes – What Israel calls aid, the world calls food weaponization
- Israel will permit a limited amount of food into Gaza to prevent a “starvation crisis” amidst a blockade lasting nearly three months, as casualties escalate in the ongoing conflict.
- This decision is tied to the operational aim of bolstering a military takeover of Gaza, with local authorities reporting over 53,000 fatalities in the besieged territory.
- As international concerns over famine grow, Israel aims to restrict Hamas’s control over humanitarian aid distribution during its intensified military campaign.
Israel to allow basic quantity of food into Gaza to avoid starvation crisis
Israel has said it will allow a “basic quantity of food” into the besieged enclave of Gaza to avoid a “starvation crisis” following a near three-month blockade.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the decision was “based on the operational need to enable the expansion of the military operation to defeat Hamas”.
Gaza, where local authorities say more than 59,000 people have died in Israel’s 19-month genocide of Gaza, has been under a complete blockade on humanitarian aid since 2 March.
The weaponization of food
It comes as global food security experts warn of famine across the territory and after a UN-backed report issued last Monday which warned one in five people in Gaza were facing starvation.
There is such a limited supply of food, that it has become unaffordable for Palestinians to buy everyday basic food items. According to Sawt Asharq, based in Jordan, Tomates are costing over $400 per kg, which is part of Israel’s strategy to force the masses to migrate to new lands.
There is a huge amount of external pressure on Israel who has become isolated in its invasion of Gaza and to take over the Gaza strip, including from America and France. In France President Macron went on TV and condemned Israel’s plans to take over Gaza.
The Palestinians have been penned in and are now being squeezed and starved, The only have a glimmer of hope for survival, and that is leave their land and migrate to Jordan or Egypt.
